“I began my journey into the world of wines in 2002, right in the heart of Dão, Penalva do Castelo, under the guidance of JTP. We traversed paths for many years, during which I learned and understood the terroir, the grape varieties, winemaking techniques, and the minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the winery. After all these years, I decided to embark on my journey as a vigneron in 2021, taking hold of the family’s 3 hectares of vineyards and starting to produce ‘my’ wine. Our vineyards are located 3 km from Penalva do Castelo at an altitude of 510 meters, with the oldest plot around 40 years old and the most recent one about 20 years old. The oldest plot, approximately 1 hectare, is a blend of 12 native red and white grape varieties that are all vinified together, giving life to our palhete. The remaining 2 hectares are divided into small plots bordered by olive trees and a forest of pine, oak, and chestnut trees. Here, red varieties such as Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and white varieties like Encruzado, Cerceal, Bical, and Malvasia express their full potential in small batches made in our small winery. Throughout the entire process, both in the vineyard and in the winery, we strive to be as minimalist as possible, letting nature do its work and making only small adjustments to create wines with character and authenticity.”
