Factor XPTO: To drink wines from Bodegas Tradición is to drink time. It is to appreciate the quality, to respect its processes and to celebrate tradition.
Bodegas Tradición CZ is a project initiated in 1998 by Joaquín M. Rivero, a descendant of the winemaking family that owned the oldest winery in Jerez, Bodegas CZ, founded in 1650. The name “Tradición” reflects the double condition of the continuity of the family winemaking tradition and the firm and unwavering commitment to recovering the traditional styles and procedures of Jerez wine production.
The only winery in the Jerez region dedicated exclusively to VOS and VORS certified wines, the highest certification in terms of quality and age of Jerez wines, granted by the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin of Jerez-Xérès-Sherry. Labels with VOS and VORS certification highlight wines aged in wood for over 20 and 30 years respectively and are awarded after extensive and comprehensive analysis and blind tastings. Currently, only fifteen Jerez wineries obtain these certifications for some of their old wines, representing only 0.2% of the total Jerez wine marketed.
The strict and self-imposed aging criteria at Bodegas Tradición exceed the rigorous maximum limits required by the Regulatory Council. The products made do not depend on physicochemical processes but on ageing through the traditional dynamic system of soleras and criaderas, as well as the work of the cellar masters and the oenologist. The aim of this production process and extremely limited production is to guarantee pure wines of the highest certified quality, with a marked traditional style and now endorsed by many of the world’s most important wine critics. Hand-labelled and handwritten one by one by our cellar master, all Bodegas Tradición’s products are highly gastronomic and versatile, ideal with all kinds of recipes but also perfect for enjoying without food, for moments of meditation and introspection.
The portfolio includes Fino, Oloroso, Amontillado, Palo Cortado, Cream, and Pedro Ximenez wines, pure and natural wines, as well as three exclusive brandy brands; all of them have been repeatedly recognized in the most prestigious national and international competitions. Products that are as sublime as they are scarce, which nowadays forces the winery to sell by quota.
The winery, built on a family legacy dating back to 1650, is also a unique cultural project that includes an art gallery, a documentary archive, and a photographic collection. The art gallery constitutes one of Andalusia’s best private art collections, holding over three hundred pieces of Spanish paintings from the 14th to the 19th centuries, with works by Goya, Velázquez, Murillo, or El Greco. Its documentary archive is a compendium of incalculable local and heritage value composed of thousands of documents (the oldest dating back to 1650) reflecting Rivero CZ’s intense commercial activity from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The photographic archive completes this more cultural aspect of the winery. It preserves over 30,000 images and documents (photos, daguerreotypes, slides, Super8 mm films, etc.) dating back to 1860, reflecting diverse aspects such as winery work, bullfighting events, or the city’s typical festivals.
“At Bodegas Tradición, we have rescued the traditional winemaking style and procedures that gave Jerez its splendour, with the aim of producing wines of the highest certified quality. Wines that are as sublime as they are limited and rare, resulting in a production philosophy that is inevitably exclusive. It is our desire, commitment, and mission to safeguard this project that gives continuity to our family winemaking tradition and, generation after generation, safeguards our essence, the essence of Jerez.”
