This is a project that I share with a great friend, colleague and oenologist Rui Lopes. A project thought for more than 10 years, when we were in College, in Agronomy School, we always share the DREAM of making a wine together and that started with the 2011 harvest. Started with a phone call and a simple phrase: “I found the perfect vineyard!!”. A dream of a vineyard, a perfect small site in the heart of Murça.
Right now consists of only a Douro White and Red (first release last year) named SOMNIUM.
The SOMNIUM Douro White is born of this desire to do a wine in the Douro, a different wine, grapes from vineyards in altitude, field blend of traditional varieties from Candedo village, from 70 years old vineyards. A wine with minimal intervention. With a prolonged stage in used French oak barriques, followed by a longer one in bottle on order that the consumer can enjoy it in the right time. This is a very gastronomic wine, showing great depht and acidity, with huge potential to age in bottle.
We make, in average, 2000-2600 bottles 75cl and some magnums.
The SOMNIUM Douro Red comes from old vineyards in the Cima Corgo, field blend of traditonal varieties, with predominantly Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional in the blend.
Aged for 24 months in used French oak barrels. Shows great elegance and finesse, suported by lovely fresh red berries aromas.
