Factor XPTO: Where the Lima Valley meets the Atlantic and where time transforms wine into art.
Phulia Wines is a project founded by João Martins and Luís Simplício, two young vignerons who embrace a minimalist approach to winemaking, evoking the authenticity of the grape varieties, terroir, and people of the Lima Valley. Committed to conscious and sustainable farming practices, they prioritize their vineyards and promote an environmentally and economically responsible production.
The main grape varieties cultivated are Loureiro, Alvarinho, Trajadura, Arinto, and, to a lesser extent, Vinhão. The proximity to the Atlantic Ocean stands out as the defining characteristic of this project, lending the wines a distinctive, unique, and remarkable identity. Currently, the Phulia project spans 5 hectares, with the vineyards divided into 10 small plots, adhering to the traditional Minho minifundium system. This setup reflects the region’s diversity and facilitates the creation of singular wines.
Phulia Wines operates from a small garage winery, focusing on limited editions that honour the terroir. Their winemaking emphasizes white wines with citrus notes, mineral character, and vibrant acidity—qualities that reflect the coastal influence and granite soils of the Lima Valley.
With over 10 years of history, Phulia Wines has forged partnerships to enhance both the brand and the region. Notable collaborations include work with winemaker Rita Sousa on Mal Acabado PetNat and Filipe Silva on Mordoma by Phulia, an Alvarinho with an Atlantic profile. These projects underscore the brand’s commitment to producing wines that combine authenticity, uniqueness, and respect for local traditions.
