XPTO Factor: Much more than a wine, it is a natural return to the past.

Casa de Darei is a property with 150 hectares, located in the municipality of Mangualde, crossed by the river Dão, upstream of the Fagilde Dam, in Darei, a village with about 40 inhabitants. A privileged location, with about 2 km of shores on the lake formed by the dam’s reservoir. The Quinta is located in 3 demarcated regions: Dão wine, Queijo da Serra and Maçã Bravo de Esmolfe.

Since January 1997, the property has been managed by a family company, Sociedade Agro Pecuária da Quinta de Darei, Lda. This administration, determined in the recovery of the property, has been making substantial investments in several areas, giving priority to the wine-growing activity, with the aim of recovering the image of a producer of high quality Dão wines.

The wine project starts with about 1 hectare of vineyards next to the Dão, close to the river. Today, the vineyard is 12 years old. The first wine was made in 1999, with grapes purchased to add to the (few) that existed. Thus, the Lagar de Darei brand was born. In 2003, after the land was released, another 6 hectares of vineyards were planted, only with Portuguese and typical Dão varieties, now with Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Alfocheiro, Encruzado, Malvasia, Bical, Cercial Verdelho and Arinto. The vines are grown in organic farming.

The wines from “Casa de Darei” and “Lagar de Darei” are the pure expression of the Dão terroir that the family wants authentic and true. Wines that don’t follow trends.

At the same time, Casa de Darei is a tourism unit in rural areas, in the “Casa de Campo” modality. The 19th century manor house is available. XVI with 7 bedrooms (up to 18 people), Casa do Tanque (up to 4 people) and Casa João Brandão (up to 6 people).
