Luís Pato

The Pato family has been producing wine at Quinta do Ribeirinho since, at least, the 19th century XVIII. João Pato started bottling wine from his vineyards in 1970, becoming the first producer-bottler in the Bairrada region, after its demarcation.

His son, Luis Pato, inherited his non-conformist and pioneer spirit, and since the 1980 harvest, he has taken care of the Quinta. The wine from that first harvest is of exceptional quality and absolute rarity and is sought after by connoisseurs as a treasure.

Luis Pato carried out a revolution in the Cellar, equipping it to allow the creation of wines with a modern style, without neglecting the character of traditional grape varieties. But he was not just an innovator in this. He also adopted a professional attitude as a producer, developing a courageous and dynamic marketing strategy, attracting the attention of international markets to the wine he produces. The wines are well known in the European, American and Asian markets, and are always recognized as a symbol of Portuguese Quinta wines of great quality.

Today, the 60 ha area of vineyard combines the heritage of the Pato family and the Melo Campos family. The vineyards used for the production of red wine (and rosé sparkling) occupy 64% of the area, with the remainder producing grapes for white wine and sparkling wine. The exclusive use of Portuguese grape varieties includes Baga, Tinto Cão and Touriga Nacional in the reds, Maria Gomes, Bical, Cerceal and Sercialinho in the whites.

It is with this “tradition of innovating” that Luis Pato presents his latest creations: Fernão Pires (red!), Baga sparkling wine according to the old method (with a single fermentation), a red Baga wine without any sulfur addition and the Rebel Duck.
